  1. On January 31, 2009, a group of us from the Shawnee Police Department took "The Plunge" for Special Olympics Kansas as participants in the Polar Bear Plunge at Shawnee Mission Park. Even though it was unseasonably warm at 65 degrees, seven inches (yes, seven inches!) of ice had to be broken to create our "swimmin' hole."

And I wore the Speedo. When I started fundraising back in December, 2008, I set a goal of $500. I promised I would wear a Speedo into the icy waters if people would help me reach my goal. I underestimated the generosity of my friends and family and surpassed my goal, raising a total of $1,360! In fact, the Shawnee PD team was the third-highest fundraiser in the KC Metro area with a total of $4,522!

Thank you for your generosity in helping me help Special Olympics Kansas. Please consider taking "the Plunge" for yourself next year. You'll have a blast "freezin' for a reason" and raise money to help fund one of the best programs around for people with developmental disabilities. If you're not the swimmin' type, please think about other ways you can help with Special Olympics Kansas.

And it's not too late to contribute!!! My website is www.firstgiving.com/craigherrmann.

Thanks for your support and enjoy the slideshow.
